How to overcome depression and suicide? This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

This year America is headed toward a record 40,000 deaths by suicide. It is the second leading cause of death for those aged 10-24.

Unrepentant sin and unresolved conflict are what lead to depression, and depression is the path that leads to suicide. But there is hope. The Psalmist says, Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him.

Knowing and drawing near to God, and feeding on His truth, is where the hope comes to overcome depression and suicide.

The counseling industry is mostly populated by secular psychologists and therapists who don’t utilize God’s Word. In the Christian realm, many counselors view the Bible as helpful but not fully sufficient to address our problems.

Here’s what the Bible says: God’s “divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.”

Scripture is not only the authority but sufficient and relevant for all of our spiritual problems.

TCW Minute: Totalitarian Tide (Week of June 26, 2017)

The dictionary defines totalitarian as “exercising control over the freedom, will, or thought of others.”

There has always been totalitarian control throughout history but not so much in the US … until recently.

Today, if anyone dares stand for what God’s Word says about sexuality, creationism, or the exclusivity of Jesus Christ, the totalitarians will use the force of law to silence.

This was no surprise to Jesus, who said, “they will persecute you, delivering you to prisons, bringing you before kings for My name’s sake.” And then he says, “It will lead to an opportunity for your testimony.”

TCW Minute: Role Reviewal … Not Reversal (Week of June 19, 2017)

Family roles. This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

The mere mention of “roles” for husbands, wives, and children can cause hair to bristle.

And yet the rejecting of God-designed roles within the family is a major factor of why we are where we are as a society.

Husbands don’t exercise headship. Wives usurp authority. Children rebel against parents. And the inexorable result is that marriages and families descend into dysfunction.

God designed the best way. The Bible says, “Wives, be subject to your husbands … Husbands, love your wives … Children, be obedient to your parents.”

When we trust and obey God and His Word, blessing and fulfillment are ours.
