TCW Minute: Worldview Divide in the Mid-Term Election (Week of Nov. 5, 2018)

Worldview divide in the mid-term election.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

Whether you are hearing this before or after the mid-term election, two realities remain the same.  The first is the worldview divide in America is wide.  Generally speaking, on one side there is Americanism represented by President Trump and Republicans and on the other is nearly Socialism represented by former President Obama and Democrats.

The other reality is that no matter which side God puts in political power, He has given Christians and the church an even greater power to proclaim the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

TCW Minute: Will You Be a Fool for Christ’s Sake? (Week of Oct. 29, 2018)

Will you be a fool for Christ’s sake?  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

No matter how educated or how winsome or how accomplished a Christian is, the non-believing world will still view him or her as a fool.  That’s because, as the apostle Paul says, “the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing” (1 Corinthians 1:18).

But then he writes, “God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.”

So Christian, embrace being a fool for Christ’s sake, as the apostle Paul did, knowing the real fools are those who say in their heart, “There is no God.”

TCW Minute: How Can the Divided States of America Become United? (Week of Oct. 22, 2018)

The Divided States of America.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

We live in the most prosperous, powerful, charitable, advanced, free nation in history.  And yet, there is a level of aggrievement and division that has not been felt perhaps since the Civil War.

Whether the issue is race, gender, religion, sexuality, abortion, immigration, or political party, the worldview gulf between the sides seems too far to bridge.

The only hope for a unified America is a spiritually revived people.  When Jonah preached to the wicked city of Ninevah about God’s coming judgment, the city repented and God relented.

Let us pray and work for hearts turned to God.

TCW Minute: What Is Speech Act Theory? (Week of Oct. 15, 2018)

What is Speech Act theory?  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

The stated purpose of the recent Statement on Social Justice and the Gospel is to clarify the doctrines of God’s Word with regard to race, gender, and sexuality.

When asked about the Statement, one highly regarded pastor referenced Speech Act theory saying, “You can’t just analyze words by what they say, you also have to analyze words by what they do…What it’s really trying to say is, ‘…don’t worry about the poor, don’t care about the injustice…’ Even if I could agree with most of it, I don’t like it.”

Impugning motive without clear evidence is something all Christians should avoid.
