TCW Minute: Lessons from the Kavanaugh Nomination (Week of Oct. 8, 2018)

Lessons from the Kavanaugh nomination.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

After weeks of drama, including accusations of sexual assault, protests, and non-stop media coverage, the Senate narrowly voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

There are many lessons here.  One is that elections matter.  Imagine what kind of judge Hillary Clinton would have nominated had she been president.  Consider Kavanaugh’s chances of confirmation if Republicans hadn’t held a slight majority in the Senate.

For Christians, voting for candidates at all levels who most closely approximate a biblical worldview, including the right to life for the unborn and the presumption of innocence for the accused, is a privilege not to be squandered.

TCW Minute: The Power of Accusation (Week of Oct. 1, 2018)

The power of accusation.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

According to those who work with him, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to fill the Supreme Court vacancy, has lived an upstanding life.  But very late in the confirmation process, an accusation was brought forward that Kavanaugh, 36 years ago when he was 17, sexually groped a 15-year-old girl.

Even without corroborating evidence, the damage has been done to his reputation.

Revelation 12 says Satan accuses Christians before God day and night.  But 1 John 2 says, “we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ”.  What good news that no accusation will stick against those Jesus has saved!

TCW Minute: Is President Trump Making America Great? (Week of Sept. 24, 2018)

Is President Trump making America great?  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

Great nations typically have a strong military, prosperous economy, and domestic security and equity.

President Trump has strengthened America in many of these categories.  But Christians should pray for him to set a better moral and interpersonal example.

Psalm 2 says: “Take warning, O judges of the earth. Worship the Lord with reverence … Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,  For His wrath may soon be kindled.  How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!”

TCW Minute: Social Justice is a Gospel Issue? (Week of Sept. 17, 2018)

Social justice is a gospel issue?  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

That statement—“Social justice is a gospel issue”—has become the rallying call of many evangelicals, as in Christians must work to end perceived oppression.  But is that biblically supportable?

Well, what did Jesus say and do?  Did He work to end the structures of racism, sexism, and the myriad of other injustices of His day?  The answer is no.  He preached the saving gospel of repentance of one’s individual sins and faith in Himself that results in a new heart that loves God and treats all people with compassion and justice.
