Past TCW Minutes

TCW Minute: Worldview of Evangelicals (Week of Dec. 3, 2018)

What is the worldview of Evangelicals?  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

Ligonier Ministries released their 2018 State of Theology survey which examines what Americans believe about a spectrum of theological questions.

It’s not surprising the general population’s responses contradict a biblical worldview, but when more than half of Evangelicals agree that people are good by nature and God accepts the worship of all religions, we have a major problem.

We need to heed what Paul told to Timothy: “Guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding … opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”—which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. 1 Timothy 6:20-21

TCW Minute: What to Learn from the Pilgrims? (Week of Nov. 26, 2018)

What should we learn from the Pilgrims?  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

The Pilgrims, who miraculously established the early American colony at Plymouth in 1620 and celebrated the first Thanksgiving with local Indians in 1621, were a subgroup of the Puritans, who believed the Church of England needed purifying in doctrine and practice from Roman Catholic influence.

The Pilgrims fled persecution in England for Holland, eventually making their historic voyage to America for religious freedom and economic opportunity.

Two things Christians can learn from the Pilgrims are their steadfast trust in God’s rule over the affairs of life and their willingness to separate from compromise.

This weekend, we’ll examine the recent State of Theology survey.

TCW Minute: Lessons from the Revelation Churches (Week of Nov. 19, 2018)

Lessons from the Revelation churches.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

In Revelation two and three, Jesus gives commendations and warnings to seven historic churches in what is now modern-day Turkey.

No church is praised for its growth, programs, music, societal impact, social justice, or relevance to non-believers.

Instead, what Christ commends is faithfulness to God’s word, intolerance of false teaching, perseverance in suffering, and holiness, while warning against sexual immorality, worldliness, and loss of love for Christ.

The church today would do well to read and heed Christ’s messages to these churches.

TCW Minute: Christ’s Message to the Church (Week of Nov. 12, 2018)

What is Jesus’ message to His church today?  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

In the opening chapters of Revelation, Jesus gives messages to seven historic churches in Asia Minor.

Two of the seven received commendations for their faithfulness while five were warned to repent of their errant ways or face the consequences.

The church today would do well to heed Christ’s commands to these churches: to cling to sound doctrine, to be full of love and good deeds, to not tolerate false teachers or be lukewarm and worldly.  Above all, to repent of sin and rekindle love for Christ.
