“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18
19 Kids and Counting is a reality television show about the Duggar family, comprised of parents Jim Bob and Michelle and their ten sons and nine daughters (and some of their children’s spouses and grandchildren). It is the most viewed program on the cable television network, TLC, averaging 2.3 million viewers per new episode.
The family, with its outspoken conservative Christian values, has become a cultural fascination for not just Christians but for non-Christians as well.
But now a major controversy has erupted. A juvenile police file was illegally leaked that the eldest son, Josh, fondled four of his younger sisters and a babysitter back in 2002 and 2003 (five years before the show began) when Josh was around 14 years old. The media has pounced on the story and the Duggars are being called hypocrites.
This weekend on The Christian Worldview, we will discuss the controversy surrounding the Duggars with the goal of understanding how to deal with the sins of our past.
