Professor but not possessor? This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.
Jesus says in Matthew 7 that many will call Him “Lord” and do great works in His name, but that he will still declare to them on judgment day: “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.”
How can this be? Well, there is an eternal destination of difference between professing to be a Christian and actually possessing genuine saving faith.
The Bible says that those who repent of their sins and place their faith in Christ, and not their own good works, are the ones Jesus’ saves. Good works are the evidence of genuine conversion, not the basis for it.

This weekend, we’ll talk with author Jerry Bridges about the pursuit of holiness.
