Guest: Troy Dobbs, Senior Pastor, Grace Church (Eden Prairie, MN)
Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame. Luke 16:24
One of the more disturbing passages in all of Scripture is when Jesus, in Luke 16, tells in vivid detail the story of a rich man who dies and is in agony in hell.
According to Jesus and many other passages in Scripture (e.g. 2 Thes. 1:9, Rev. 21:8) hell is an incomprehensibly terrible and real place, where those who reject God’s offer of forgiveness through Jesus Christ will consciously suffer God’s wrath … forever.
The Bible’s descriptions of hell should, at minimum, cause any skeptic to investigate its reality because logically there are just two options: hell exists in the way Scripture describes or it doesn’t. And if it does, the next question is “How can I, a sinner, avoid God’s wrath and judgment in hell, and instead receive eternal life in heaven?”
This weekend on The Christian Worldview, Troy Dobbs, senior pastor at Grace Church in Eden Prairie, MN, will join us to discuss a recent message he gave on hell. For when one understands the horrifying reality of hell, the good news of salvation will be that much greater for the unbeliever and sharing it will be much more urgent for the believer.
